LaborStar Supplemental Plan FAQs

Who's eligible for LaborSTAR coverage?

All LIUNA retirees and their spouses or surviving spouses age 65 and older, who are enrolled in Medicare Part A and B are eligible for this coverage.

Can I choose my own doctors and hospitals?

Choosing your own health care doctors, hospitals, and providers is your personal right. LaborSTAR assures you can continue to use the physicians and hospitals you have come to trust. There is no designated physician list or approval process to see a specialist.

How do I enroll in LaborSTAR?

Call 1-800-682-6166 or send us a request now to have an enrollment packet mailed to you. Complete the enrollment form and return it to us. It's that easy.

What if I want to cancel my policy?

Your satisfaction is important! You have 30 days to review your LaborSTAR plan. If after receiving your certificate you want to cancel for any reason, simply return your certificate and I.D. card within the 30-day period. Any premium, less any claims paid, will be refunded.

Do I have to fill out mountains of paperwork
to get my claims paid?

The last thing you want – especially when you're getting well – is a ton of paperwork associated with getting Medicare claims paid! "Automatic" Claims Filing PLUS® takes the hassle out of Medicare claims filing. Customers' claims and health care provider payments are made automatically when doctors accept Medicare assignment. You do virtually nothing!

When will my coverage begin?

Protection starts on the issue date of your certificate following approval of your enrollment form and first premium payment. It will remain in effect as long as your premiums are paid on time and the master policy remains in force. If you are replacing another health insurance plan or supplemental coverage, do not cancel it until you have actually received your new certificate and are sure you will keep it.
